Dr. Garfield Giff is the Manager of GIS Programs at the Aurora Research Institute (ARI), located in the Northwest Territories. Garfield has extensive experience in: climate change (CC) research, developing CC adaptation and mitigation strategies; designing CC indicators and models, mapping and monitoring CC effects; geospatial business analysis, GIS, and spatial data infrastructure (SDI) program management. Over the past eight years Garfield has developed an evolving Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) at ARI to support research both within and outside of the institution. The program not only supports research but also facilitate the training of community members in the application of RPSA to enhance their business and research activities. As Research Chair in Climate Change Adaptation, Garfield used RPAS methodologies extensively in the mapping and monitoring of climate driven changes on Western Artic Communities and have developed strategies/SOP to grow the use of RPAS in the high Arctic environment.
