Biography

Julie Camy: Pioneer of Dronautics in Québec
Julie Camy is a leading figure in the field of robotics and drones at Hydro-Québec, where she holds the position of Chief Expert, Robotics and Drones, within the main division – Innovation Strategy and Technological Solutions for the Energy System. Since the creation of her team in July 2023, she has led an ambitious mission: to democratize the use of robotic and dronautic technologies in the maintenance and inspection of energy infrastructure.
Under her leadership, Hydro-Québec has integrated the LineDrone, the world’s first commercial drone capable of landing and rolling on live power lines. This technological gem, designed by Hydro-Québec’s Research Center (CRHQ) and commercialized by DroneVolt, enables high-precision inspections while eliminating the risks associated with human work on live lines. Thanks to the combined use of the LineDrone and the LineOhm and LineCore probes, teams have observed an 800% productivity gain in the field.
Julie Camy doesn’t just integrate cutting-edge technologies—she builds a true internal ecosystem. Her team, composed of engineers and robotics specialists, works with underwater, terrestrial, and aerial robots. Together, they certify devices, establish frameworks, and make dronautics accessible to support and maintenance units. This approach allows Hydro-Québec to carry out complex operations in-house while sharing data centrally to maximize its value.
Her work is part of a broader context in which Québec is positioning itself as a global leader in dronautics. With a world-class aerospace industry, recognized expertise in artificial intelligence, and a vast territory ideal for testing, the province attracts investment and fosters innovation in autonomous navigation and control systems.
Julie Camy embodies this Québec dynamic. Through her leadership, she transforms drones into strategic tools for Québec’s energy future, while actively contributing to the rise of dronautics as a key technological sector. Her vision—focused on efficiency, safety, and innovation—makes her an essential player in this industrial revolution.
