Biography

Duncan Elliott is a Professor at the University of Alberta, hired in 1997, where his research interests include microelectronics, RF & communications circuits, embedded systems, satellite design, and autonomous flight, including communications and sense and avoid. In the last 4 years, he has served on multiple Transport Canada (federal aviation regulator) CanaDAC task forces, which worked towards the Nov. 4, 2025 Transport Canada’s rules for licencing for BVLOS RPAS (beyond visual line of sight remotely piloted aerial system) operations.  Since 2012, his lab has flown RPAS (drones) under Transport Canada special flight operations certificates and later under the current Transport Canada RPAS licenced flight regulations.
